Yesterday, after being on a plane from Sydney for 4 hours, I had my very first appointment with a bariatric surgeon.
He asked me lots of questions about my health (and was pretty shocked that I didn't have diabetes or high blood pressure or any other weight related health issues). We talked about the procedure... cutting my stomach down to the size of my little finger... and then told me I could quite easily lose 72kg in 6 months! I was in shock... thats 50% of my weight... gone, in 6 months. I don't see how that's healthy... but he reassured me that my body will adapt to the new stomach, very quickly... He told me I had 2 weeks to decide whether I want to go ahead with it. I told him I was ready.
I was given all the information I needed and told that I could have the surgery in 6 weeks if I wanted... but that is not long enough to save up the estimated $6,000 I will need!
I left the surgery.... very excited and scared... but the thing that scares me the most is finding the money... plus money for accommodation while I'm in Perth... and the money for the VLCD I have to do before the surgery. I was told I will have to be in Perth 10 days after the surgery in case there is complications... that's along time being stuck in a hotel room, not being able to do much. I will deal with that when it comes up.
Anyway I'm back from my holiday and I'm exhausted. I was so happy to sleep in my own bed last night, but now my back is sore from sleeping in the crap hotel beds, then coming back to my good mattress... it happens all the time. I will probably do a post about my holiday on my other blog. Stay tuned for that :)
